With boundaries set as far back as 1267, Herdade do Esporão is located in Reguengos de Monsaraz, in the Alentejo region of Portugal and is characterised by the diversity of its volcanic and schist soils. Warmed by the Alentejo sun, which is tempered by cool Atlantic breezes, the estate stretches for over 1,800 hectares and includes 500 hectares of vineyards and 82 hectares of olive groves. David Baverstock is the chief winemaker at Esporão and is no stranger to Ireland. David was part of the pioneering first wave of antipodean flying winemakers and has been crafting wines at Esporão for over 20 years. ESPORÃO P O R T U G A L www.esporao.com 54
